Checklist of Endemic Mammal Species
This list of mammal species found exclusively in Mauritius is based on the taxonomy used in Wilson & Reeder (2005). For further details on possible inaccuracies in the list see Sources & Caveats.

Pteropus niger (Chiroptera - Pteropodidae) Greater Mascarene Flying Fox
Pteropus rodricensis (Chiroptera - Pteropodidae) Rodrigues Flying Fox
An additional endemic mammal species resulted from splitting a bat species into two species too recently to be included in Wilson & Reeder (2005) and is given below. This list is primarily based on information from the Dutch Wikipedia for 2008 (here), 2007 (here), 2006 (here), 2005 (here), and 2004 (here). In addition to the 2 endemic mammal species listed above, the additional species listed below gives a total of 3 species of mammals known solely from Mauritius.
Mormopterus acetabulosus (Chiroptera - Molossidae) 1804
Note: This is the result of the bats from Reunion being described as a separate species in 2008 (Mormopterus francoismoutoui). Although specimens have been recorded from the African mainland, these are believed to be vagrants leaving the species as a breeding endemic for Mauritius.
